All aboard the CDL EcoTrain!

Launched on 10 March 2025 by President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, the CDL EcoTrain is Singapore’s first decommissioned SMRT train cabin repurposed into a climate education hub. Located outside City Square Mall, the operationally zero-energy CDL EcoTrain aims to engage the community on pressing climate and sustainability issues, particularly for children aged four and above. The train will feature interactive displays, exhibits and workshops focused on environmental themes, co-created with Just Keep Thinking (JKT), Singapore’s largest Science, Nature and Sustainability social media platform.

The CDL EcoTrain, part of the Land Transport Authority’s (LTA) upcycling initiative which repurposes decommissioned SMRT cabins, is the first public-facing repurposed train located at a retail mall. By repurposing a decommissioned train cabin, the project aligns with Singapore’s circular economy goals, demonstrating the potential of upcycling in urban spaces.

CDL EcoTrain Milestones

CDL Ecotrain: Our Interactive, Green Classroom

Over 70,000 visitors have explored the CDL EcoTrain in its first year of operation, with 105 workshops hosted to bring sustainability and climate learning to life.

Embark on a fun and interactive sustainability journey at the CDL EcoTrain, Powered by solar energy and featuring interactive displays, hands‑on exhibits and engaging activities co‑created with Just Keep Thinking, the CDL EcoTrain brings nature and climate education to life for visitors.

The experience continues to evolve beyond its earlier themes. Looking ahead, visitors can look forward to the ‘Melting Ice, Sinking Cities’ exhibition at the CDL EcoTrain, a climate action showcase that highlights the rapid warming in the polar regions, glacier loss and rising sea levels, which affects everyone, even here in the tropics.

Opening hours for EcoTrain

  • CLOSED on Mondays
  • Weekdays: 1100-1800
  • Weekends: 1100-1900
  • (Lunch Break: 1230-1400)

Open through public holidays.

General visit to EcoTrain Gallery Exhibition
Visitors are free to visit the EcoTrain during the opening hours and embark on a self-guided tour.

Participation in Workshops

Workshop slots open on a rolling basis, 1 week in advance. New slots will be released weekly via the event website.
